THE FIRST STRATEGIC INVESTMENT TOOL

A VISUAL MODEL OF THE SPORTS RIGHTS ENVIRONMENT. The use of Black Box will deliver a strong and visual picture regarding if and when to invest. Give an understanding of how to position yourself in an oligopoly market with closed Invitations to Tender (ITTs) and help to take informed decisions on customer value creation under multiple competitor/bidding scenarios.

visualise

Black Box is a tool that visualises the sport rights environment, offers a strategic direction for buying and selling rights and provides advanced competition analysis in one multi-dimensional model.

RESEARCH

Black Box is a system that uses the five key elements to predict the future environment of premium sports rights and competitors. Deep data-led analysis creates a visual model that supports the process of buying/selling or evaluating how to act. The key elements are actors on the market, premium sports rights, tender processes, rights cycles and time.

work

Black Box workflow is research and analyzing data. To develop the tool, I have looked at financial instruments for investment and hedging combined with Game Theories.

BID

Successful bidding and winning sports rights. An informed overview of the full environment and understanding the competition maximizes chances to be successful in an ITT. Black Box visualises optimal windows during which a strategic advantage exists over competitors. The Black Box tool can be applied for selling rights to maximize value or buying rights at the best price.

Ingmar Stenmark, SWEDISH Alpine skier with 86 world cup wins:

“I don’t know anything about luck, but the harder I train, the luckier I get.”

I have used financial investment systems and Game Theory as base for Black Box.

Is Black Box necessary?
Research, knowledge and experience are necessary for making sound investments. Black Box is a tool for investments in sports rights to support existing organizations and people in the industry or provide a strong foundation for new companies that wish to acquire or sell sport.

Why did you create the Black Box?
Black Box is how most of us work.  We created the tool when we had time to define what was needed to maximise our chances against very strong competition; our clients need to be able to visualize for their Boards why sports investments need to be done at specific times as well as the risks associated with not acting; we understand our client’s position in an Oligopoly market situation and use it to their favour, we look at customer value and use sports rights as a means to create that value and we assist clients in making sure they gain ground in all negotiations. Rights change hands and our job is to make sure we sustain or grow the value for our client’s consumers.

Is there any scientific approach to Black Box?
The model is developed from how traders work with financial instruments and Game Theory. There are similarities and lessons to be learnt from systems used for large money investments. Game Theory is trying to find an edge over others with access to the same information, it can be described as to play the game when it is most favourable for you or least favourable for your opponents.
